Is obesity an epidemic?

It's an epidemic because it affects so many people. Epidemic doesn't mean disease, it means out-of-control health issue. And obesity is one. I get so angry at the "we should make them feel good about their bodies" people because when someone is morbidly obese it is endangering their life. It doesn't help people.
