My inbox tally says I have 8 or 6 or what ever emails in it, but then when I click inbox to check it's empty?

Yahoo says this is a glitch and will clear on it's own. From the inbox screen click View all messages, then click unread messages. If you have any at all, it will show them. Could be on the last page at the bottom or in folders.Otherwise it will clear soon. It did for the rest of us.
