Why are some people against contraception?

Looks like you really touched a few nerves here. I believe the decision to have or not have children is up to the individual. And yes, there IS an overpopulation problem and anyone who denies it is an idiot. I guess it's easy to overlook the starving mes of the world when they aren't white and christian. I have no children - by choice. Let's face it: the vast majority of us are physiologically capable of reproducing. What makes this so special? It is only special when those having children are taking full responsibility for those children and giving them the nurturing and foundation for life. Sadly, many parents fail in this. People think they have to have children just because they "can" or because everyone else is doing it. It's just another aspect of the herd mentality. Yes, I admit I'm selfish. I recognize that in myself. Why should a selfish person bear a child? Oh, because it would "change" me? I doubt it. I have nieces and nephews and friends' children that I can enjoy. I have enough self-esteem that I don't have to mold and manipulate an innocent life to feel like I am important. As for "family," well, it's been my experience that family is less about your blood relatives than it is about those people who love you and treat you with respect and caring, regardless of blood bonds. Those people are your true family.
