What sound would startle or quiet a rooster?
Hi There! Most sounds will actually make a rooster crow more. We have a rooster and he crows at everything. If a siren goes by, a horn honks, a helicopter flies over, anything! He crows. This is because roosters are very territorial and when they hear strange sounds, they think that another rooster is trying to move in on their territory. Another thing that makes a rooster crow is when someone goes into or leaves their yard. They want to show that they are in charge. They also crow when they are happy, when they find food, when they wake up, when they are scared, and when they mate. In short, you really can't do anything to make a rooster not crow. It's just part of their nature. If you startle them, they will probably crow more. Sorry. The only way to quiet a rooster is to make rooster stew. On the other hand, you neighbor could collect chainsaws, antique car horns, or something even more obnoxious and loud. . .
